Centenary Newsletter (No.1)

Tuesday 10 February 2026

Dear Members,

Centenary Newsletter (No.1)

In 2026 our Club marks 100 years since its founding - a milestone that speaks not only to its enduring legacy but also to the vibrant community that has flourished across generations on these fairways and greens. As we stand on the eve of this truly momentous occasion, it is with immense pride and excitement that we announce our Club’s upcoming centenary celebrations. The planning of these celebrations has been informed by your responses to the 100-Year Celebration Member Survey and we sincerely thank all respondents.

This special newsletter is the first of a series that will act as your guide to everything that awaits as we prepare to honour our history, celebrate the present and look with anticipation toward the future.

With a full calendar of events, commemorative projects and opportunities for every member to participate, our centenary year promises to be a tapestry of cherished memories, inspiring stories, and joyful camaraderie.

A Century of Golfing Excellence

For a hundred years, our Club has stood as a beacon for golf enthusiasts both near and far.  We have hosted countless tournaments - both friendly and competitive -fostered local and national talent and become a hub for social interaction and lifelong friendships. Every tree on the course, every trophy in the clubhouse and every story told on course between members and guests is a testament to the dedication and passion of our members.

Our Club had its beginnings in October 1924 when a meeting was held to confirm the formation of the Coffs Harbour and District Golf Club. The Club was to be established on land rented from the City Council. Initially at home at Brelsford Park, the Club was moved to the Showground where a six-hole course was prepared in 1926. December 1926 saw the official opening of Coffs Harbour Golf Club with Dr Hawke becoming the first President. Over the next decade the site of the course moved from the Showground to land on the south side of Boambee Creek, to a property in Korora and back to the Showground. It remained there until 1938 when Crown Land was acquired on the current site. Carnegie Clarke was engaged to design the 9-hole course and Don Anderson involved to prepare the course according to Clarke’s plan. A 25-year lease was granted and the new course was opened in June 1940. All money spent on the course was put up by the people of Coffs Harbour.

Over the decades, our course has grown into a premier 27-hole facility renowned for its picturesque landscape, challenging design and welcoming spirit.
