Dear Members, Centenary Newsletter (No.2) Welcome to the 2nd edition of our Centenary Newsletter. The excitement is building as we approach our 100th year anniversary and this second newsletter is bursting with everything you need to know to join in the fun and festivities. Dive in, get involved, and help make this once-in-a-lifetime milestone unforgettable! Together, we’ll honour our history, create new memories and celebrate the spirit that makes our Club so unique. Kick-off Ceremony: Let the Festivities Begin! We will launch our Centenary with a formal opening on Friday 13th February 2026, commencing around 4pm. Members are invited to join Club leaders, special guests and various media outlets to unveil our Commemorative Plaque and raise the Centenary Flag before moving inside to unveil the Centenary Timeline, cut the Centenary Cake and share in the festivities. Whether you’re a long-time member or joining us for the first time, this ceremony is where our centenary celebrations truly take off, so save the date, book a table for dinner and share in the excitement. Commemorative Plaque & Centenary Timeline Unveiling The unveiling of our Commemorative Plaque and Centenary Timeline are key highlights of the kick-off event and central to our celebration. The Commemorative Plaque is a permanent tribute to 100 years of golfing tradition, friendship and community and the Centenary Timeline summarises our Club’s key events and achievements. Gather with us as we honour the remarkable people and moments that shaped CHGC’s history. Witness the unveiling, reflect together and take pride in the legacy we’re all part of. Centenary Book: Celebrating 100 Years of CHGC Information for the Centenary Book is currently being gathered and is hoped to be finalised early in our Centenary year. Our Centenary Book aims to commemorate a hundred years of our Club’s history and capture the spirit, achievements and memories that have made CHGC truly unique. The final product will ensure that all key milestones, personalities and achievements are recognised and will serve as both a tribute to our past and a record for future generations to cherish. The book will weave together interviews, photos, historical records and anecdotes, ensuring every member, visitor, and friend finds their place in our story. Whether you’re reliving fond memories or discovering new tales, our Centenary Book will be a testament to the enduring spirit of CHGC. If you have any old photos or memorabilia that you think would be a valuable part of our book, we urge you to have a chat to John Nichols (Organising Committee). We would all like to see them! Centenary Interviews Keep your eyes peeled for the many Centenary interviews that will be appearing on our website, social media platforms and the screens around the club. Interviews with long-term members, Club professionals, greens staff, return visitors and our elite juniors who have gone on to compete on the World stage, all aim to make our walls talk and bring our history to life. If you have a story to tell, please contact a member of the organising committee! We would all love to hear it!!! On the back of the recent Festival of Golf, the first video is with a long-time return visitor to our FOG: Robert Blackman (Blackie) has not missed a year since his first visit in 1977 at the age of 20yrs. He has clocked up 48 consecutive FOGs, just short of half of our Club’s existence! Blackie is definitely a likeable larrikin, and his video interview is sure to entertain! His video will be ready for viewing in a couple of weeks! Time Capsule: A Legacy for the Next Century As part of our Centenary celebrations, we are planning the installation of a special Time Capsule. An official event and the sealing of the capsule for the next 100 years will be held in December 2026 on our actual birthday and will offer future generations a unique glimpse into our Club’s history and community spirit. The time capsule will contain a curated selection of Club memorabilia and members are invited to contribute items or written memories for possible inclusion. Please contact the Club office if you have something special to add. Together, we’ll ensure that the story of our Club lives on for the next century and beyond.
