Centenary Newsletter (No.4)

Thursday 2 April 2026

Dear Members,

Centenary Newsletter (No.4)

Welcome to the 4th edition of our Centenary Newsletter.

As we celebrate our 100th year, we thought it timely to provide a brief summary of recent events and an overview of upcoming celebrations.

This year has seen our members come together to celebrate our Centenary Launch; compete in both the Men's and Women's Centenary Club Championships; and recognize and honour long-term members at our 30+years Members Centenary Celebration High Tea.

Each Centenary event, combined with our Centenary merchandise, affords us the opportunity to remember and honour the remarkable people and moments that have shaped our history.

Let's look back at our events so far...

Official Launch: (Feb 13)

The rain couldn’t dampen the excitement that filled the air during the official part of our Centenary Launch. Life Members, Club leaders, special guests and members came together to honour the remarkable people and moments that shaped CHGC’s history.

Following the official proceedings, the Clubhouse was filled with the happy faces of over 200 members and guests, all enjoying canapes and a complimentary drink together and recounting fun stories from the past.

The formal part of the launch saw the Gibson Room filled to capacity for a delicious 2-course meal.  Formalities were kicked off with a welcome from the President, followed by video messages from two of our home-grown professionals (Paul Sheehan & Emma de Groot). A highlight of the evening was a congratulatory video message from Gary Player, who won the North Coast Open in 1956 & 57.

Members were entertained by two short videos of our Life members, Col Cutmore & Mat Martin, before they both shared the honour of cutting the Centenary Cake.

Our Centenary Flag is now flying, the greens carry our 100-year pin position flags, the Commemorative Plaque and the Centenary Timeline are unveiled, and our history is now proudly on display.

Men's Centenary Club Championships: (Feb/March)

As the Centenary banners decorated the 1st tee, it was clear that this year's championship was especially significant and would be fiercely competitive.

Congratulations to Cameron Pollard, who after a few attempts was successful in claiming the Brown & Hurley Men’s Centenary Club Championship. After four rounds and with a score of 286, Cameron claimed victory by 10 strokes ahead of Aden Louez (296), with Logan Toms a further shot back in third (298). Andrew Rodway was the A Grade Nett champion (276).

Peter Brandster had a memorable two weeks taking out the B Grade Championship (336) and finishing three strokes ahead of Pop Johnson (339) followed by Paul Mealey (342). Nick Ling took out the nett title (281).

Adam Brett was the C Grade Champion (362) ahead of Steve Ashdown (368) and Ian Saunders (370).  The nett prizes in C Grade went to Joe Moran (276), Will Randall (290) and Aaron Jamieson (291).

Thank you to Phil Atkin and Brown and Hurley for their 20 years of sponsorship. As the Club marks its Centenary and Brown and Hurley celebrates 80 years in business, we are especially grateful for this longstanding support.

Ladies Centenary Club Championships: (Feb/March)

Congratulations to Annalese McKee, our 2026 Women’s Centenary Club Champion.  Annalese bettered her 2024 Club Championship score by 7 shots, with an impressive 231.

Carrie Fagan, our 2025 Club Champion, finished runner-up with a score of 243, followed by Alex Brett on 247.

Our 2026 B Grade Champion is Judy Everitt, finishing with a score of 301, with Kerri Neef taking out the C Grade Championship with a score of 323.

The A Grade Nett Championship went to Greer Galloway (211), with B Grade honours going to Rebecca Gill (227) and C Grade to Maree Spencer (226)

The atmosphere at the final presentation in the clubhouse on Sunday afternoon reflected the significance of this Centenary Championship.  The presentation tables featured Centenary-branded cloths and were surrounded by Centenary banners.  Complimentary champagne for all added the final touch to this one in one-hundred-year event!!

A big Thank you to our major sponsor, Mike Blewitt Group for their continued support.

Centenary Celebration High Tea: (March 30)

The Centenary celebrations would not be complete without recognising the significant contributions of our older members, both past and present. Their dedication and involvement have shaped our community and made it what it is today.

The Centenary Celebration High Tea offered an ideal environment for around 70 friends to reconnect and reminisce. The event provided a warm and welcoming space where stories were shared, memories revisited, and the spirit of camaraderie was celebrated.

Each guest was gifted a Centenary logoed wine glass as a ‘thank you’ for their contribution to our Club.

The video series will continue throughout our Centenary year with another about to drop and many more already in the planning. If you have a story to tell, please contact Noel Goodworth or Gail de Groot.

Centenary Merchandise

Observing the Clubhouse and fairways, it is evident that many members are proudly displaying our Centenary-branded shirts and caps.

Matt now provides a remarkable collection of Centenary merchandise, allowing us the opportunity to purchase items adorned with the Centenary logo and celebrate our collective spirit throughout this significant year.  The logoed head covers have been a big hit, and Matt has just received a new shipment of all sizes.

These keepsakes are ideal for expressing your CHGC pride and will help you cherish memories of the Centenary well into the future.

What is next on our Centenary schedule...

North Coast Junior Open: (April 17)

Young golfers will compete in the Centenary tournament from 8am to 12 noon, with BBQ lunch, drinks, and a gift pack for every player. Choose between the 18-hole course or the 9-hole short course, with divisions for all juniors and prizes for overall gross, net, and encouragement.

The inaugural Junior Open has been made possible through the generous support of the following sponsors, for which we extend our sincere gratitude:

We are pleased to announce that tickets for the gala event at Coffs Harbour Golf Club on Friday, 4 September will be available from Thursday, 30 April, priced at $70 per person.

As the marquee celebration of our Centenary, the Gala Cocktail Party will see the Clubhouse beautifully transformed, creating an ideal setting to honour our history and celebrate what's ahead.

Dress your best and get ready for an evening filled with laughter, music and wonderful company.

Due to limited space, the guest list will be restricted to around 400, so tickets are restricted and expected to sell out quickly.
