It is with great sadness that we let members know of the passing of Morris Raphael. Morris was an avid golfer and joined the Club in 1993, he was a regular on the course and in the Clubhouse, where he would sit and chat over coffee with his friends. At 92 Morris was an inspiration to many; playing golf and always up for a chat and a laugh, sadly Morris was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and passed away last week.
Morris got a hole in one on the 3rd, he was so proud of this and it is one of his happiest golfing memories, he has requested his ashes be scattered here.
Morris celebrated his 90th birthday here in 2017; his one request was an ample sized dance floor to dance to the band he had organised. At 90 Morris was more energetic than most many years younger than him.
A true testament to the kind of man Morris was, he has asked for his golf clubs and golf balls to be donated to the Pro Shop for the juniors to use. He knew it is hard for some juniors who don’t have much money to be able to play with good clubs and to be able to afford equipment. Many juniors will benefit from Morris’ kindness and generosity for years to come.
Morris loved his golf and therefore has asked for a celebration of his life to be planned in his memory at the Club – he has requested there be no funeral and instead have a party reminiscent of his 90th celebration. Members and friends who knew Morris are invited to a memorial on Saturday 14th March, 4pm – 8pm at Coffs Harbour Golf Club, Auditorium. Friends of Morris are invited to speak at his memorial, share a few words , some golfing stories and memories of Morris.
