COFFS HARBOUR HOSTS PREMIER GOLF TOURNAMENT
Coffs Coast golf tourism will be boosted when our city hosts a NSW Open regional qualifying tournament in December.
Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said Coffs Harbour Golf Club’s prestigious North Coast Open on December 9-11 is the first of six regional qualifiers teeing off across NSW.
“These NSW Open qualifiers will help regional communities like ours hit hard by drought, bushfires, floods and COVID-19,” Mr Singh said.
“I’m proud Coffs Harbour Golf Club has been selected as a host and I congratulate their hardworking board, management, staff and members on this terrific outcome.
“The NSW Government is committing $2.1 million over three years to assist Golf NSW stage the regional qualifying tournaments.
Professional and amateur golfers can vie for a total prize pool of $300,000, with a $50,000 prize for each event.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the NSW Government is committed to supporting communities in regional NSW which have been doing it tough.
Mr Barilaro said bringing the NSW Open qualifying tournament to Coffs Harbour will help boost tourism.
“Golf clubs are an essential part of regional sporting communities across the state and for the first time the NSW Government and Golf NSW are providing an option for regional clubs to host qualifying events for the NSW Open,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Usually professional and amateur golfers have to travel to Sydney to qualify for the NSW Open but this allows them to do so in their own backyard, bringing tourism to the regions and valuable economic dollars to boost local coffers.”
