Vale Alice McGregor

It is with great sadness we advise our members of the passing of Alice McGregor. Our beautiful life member passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday evening, aged 95 years young.

Alice’s family have advised there will be no service or wake at this time due to Covid restrictions and lockdowns, however they are planning a celebration of life for Alice once restrictions are eased.

Alice joined the Coffs Harbour Golf Club in 1960, playing golf for 47 years and was a driving force to help develop the Club into what is today.

Alice held a variety of positions at the Club including Publicity Officer from 1970 to 1971 and Vice President from 1972 to 1973.  She also was President of the WGCNC Committee from 1974 to 1976 and didn’t miss a CNC tournament from 1961 to 1979.

After a short break from the Ladies’ Committee, Alice held varying positions from 1983 to 1992 including Vice Captain and Co-ordinator for the Tuesday Beginner Ladies.

In 1985 Alice helped organise the Club’s 60th Birthday Anniversary bash. The whole Club was involved and it was a great success.  With Alice involved, no one was game to “fall down” on the job!

Alice was made a Life Member in 1991, a richly deserved honour. Alice sponsored a ladies’ event every year, right up to last month! Alice’s sponsorship was wonderful, especially insisting on a Bisque Par for her day every year.

Alice continued to attend the Club on Wednesdays with her good friends, we suspect she only came for the hugs, everyone loved Alice’s visits.

We wish Alice’s family a lifetime of precious memories, Alice’s spirit will certainly live on in the stories and memories of all of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
